The company’s profile:
VUMS Computers s.r.o. (s.r.o. = Ltd.) is among the foremost Czech firms with the longest tradition in computer technology. The company was originally one of many daughter companies of the former Research Institute for Mathematical Machines (in Czech Výzkumný ústav matematických strojů), today called VUMS, a.s. The foundations of that institute were laid by the well-known computer specialist and university lecturer assistent professor Antonin Svoboda (who later taught at several American universities), and this in the year 1950, when he founded a computer laboratory at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. In the year 1958 this laboratory was renamed to Research Institute for Mathematical Machines. As from the year 1988 this institute became part of the share-holding company ZAVT a.s. VUMS has been an independent share-holding company since 1991.
During the past forty years VUMS worked as a research and development center in the field of computer and information technology. At the same time VUMS was significantly active also in other spheres of electronics - in analog and measuring technology. The people working for VUMS gained world recognition mainly in the sphere of computer architecture, especially in fault tolerant systems (SAPO - the first computer in the world with the triple modular redundancy and residue codes).
The center of their work was the complex solving of mainframe computers (hundreds of installations in Czechoslovakia and in Germany). Another center was the development of minicomputers including the software. The qualification and erudition of the VUMS team made it possible for them to adapt themselves quickly to the new conditions in the process of the economy transformation after the velvet revolution. The main elite of the specialists for research and development coming from VUMS quickly found their bearings for other activities, as for example:
VUMS is now divided into several co-operating daughter companies or also independent-working companies. In computer technology and electronics are engaged: VUMS Computers s.r.o., VUMS DataCom, VUMS software, VUMS Legend, , VUMS-Automation s.r.o., VUMS Control Systems a.s., VUMS-POWERPRAG s.r.o, EEproject s.r.o. and MEV Praha s.r.o.. In Brno are the daughter companies VUMS ELVOS, TEVYS s.r.o. and MICRO COMP s.r.o. More than 150 people are employed in VUMS-group companies.
The company VUMS Computers s.r.o. was founded 1.8.1992 by five former employees of VUMS a.s. At this time the company VUMS s.r.o. has at its disposal quite a number of very experienced and capable employees. Three of them have scientific degree CSc. (Candidate of Technical Sciences, the PhD equivalent). It employs seven graduated engineers qualified for information and computer technology. Apart from the distribution of computer technology devices, the main area of VUMS Computers is the system integration. The company specialises in the turn-key supply of information systems and computer networks with the operating systems Windows, NetWare and UNIX. The company recorded in this area during the years of its functioning, considerable success. VUMS Computers won several bids and defeated in hard competition many well-known big companies. Part of our activities is also the connecting of our customers to the WAN network INTERNET and security. Apart from this, VUMS Computers renders - according to outsourcing contracts - service to quite a number of larger and smaller independent companies in the field of network-management, making use of the technical knowledge of its administrators and technicians. To the so far realised projects belong - as the most important - the hardware and software supply for the following customers:
It is our aim to strengthen our position on the Czech computer market further. Differently from many other computer companies that are aimed only towards selling hardware and software, we are oriented mainly towards service. It is our ambition to continue in this trend also in the future. The main emphasis is at the same time put on the complexity of the service given. We rely upon the high skill and the rich practical experience of our workers. We are capable of offering every customer an optimal solution, and that as far as prices are concerned, and also as to performance, quality and service. At the same time the broadness of our offering of goods and service will widen further. We shall foremost aim at the main development directions of information technology and widen the qualification of our employees, in order to keep our name of highly qualified specialists in our branch, and as to keep up with the tradition of the Research Institute for Mathematical Machines, which means an obligation to us.
